Swiss Village is pleased to announce that Jerry Flueckiger will serve as Chaplain for the Retirement Community. Flueckiger brings with him 25 years of ministry experience. Prior to working in ministry, he taught school for 18 years. Most recently he served as visitation pastor for First Mennonite Church in Berne. Flueckiger will begin serving residents and staff as a part-time Chaplain beginning January 29, 2018.
“It is an honor for me to be able to work in a facility that takes seriously the responsibility of providing an environment that promotes living life to its fullest,” stated Flueckiger. “I enjoy working with people and want to be sensitive to staff and resident requests, whether it be for counseling, praying, or just listening.”
Mike Wertenberger, who has been serving as Chaplain, recently transitioned into the role of Director of Pastoral Care for Swiss Village. Wertenberger has been providing pastoral care for Swiss Village since 2013, and has been serving in ministry for 44 years.
“To say that I am pleased to have Jerry join us would be a great understatement,” said Wertenberger. “I am confident that his compassion, personality, and experience will make him a wonderful addition to our team as we minister together to meet the spiritual needs of our residents.”
“Swiss Village believes in caring for the whole person, not just the physical needs of our residents,” stated Rod Mason, President/CEO. “This means actively also attending to their Spiritual well-being! By adding a few more hours each week in the Pastoral Care department, we will be better-equipped to do just that! By taking advantage of the skill-sets of recently-retired Pastor Jerry and now having TWO capable Chaplains on staff, our ability to diversify our coverage of the Department’s needs will be better-served. This is a great benefit for our residents, their families and the staff.”
