Active Aging Week Brings Guest Speaker Chris Clemens

The Arthur and Gloria Muselman Wellness Pavilion’s 4th annual Active Aging Week is scheduled for Sunday, September 27th – Friday, October 2nd . Active Aging Week promotes the benefits of a healthy lifestyle on a national scale by providing older adults with the opportunity to experience themed activities and exercise in a safe, friendly, and fun atmosphere.

All activities and events, themed “Live Your Adventure”, will be held at the Wellness Pavilion, and will be free for seniors ages 55 and older. The week brings many opportunities for seniors to socialize in a healthy environment with neighbors and friends.

Seniors will have the opportunity to hear about the adventures of Chris Clemens during the free senior lunch at the Arthur & Gloria Muselman Wellness Pavilion on Thursday, October 1 at 11:30 a.m.

Chris Clemens is living his adventure. From thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail to traveling around the country living and working in a van, Chris is stepping outside the box and following his passions.

Clemens, a native of Berne, attended South Adams and graduated from Ball State University. Chris is the son of Tom & Sharon Ninde, of Geneva, Indiana and Jim and Kathy Clemens of Prescott, Arizona. His grandparents were the late Merlin & Berniece Sprunger,Dorothy Clemens, and Mary Ninde. Grandfather Gene Clemens lives in Arizona and Fred Ninde reside at Swiss Village in Berne.

After college, Chris began working with a manufacturing company in Santa Barbara, California and traveled the world for work and fun. He left that job in 2006 to hike the Appalachian Trail, over 2,184 miles through 14 states in 136 days. When he returned to California he joined a technology startup and began running long trails in the mountains, eventually completing a 100 mile race in just over 24 hours.

This year Chris left his job again, this time to do freelance work fulltime on the road, traveling the country and living in his 1985 Volkswagen Westfalia campervan. He has no full time address, no desk, and no house. He works from his laptop in coffee shops and invests his free time in his passions, including trail running, exploring new places, being in nature, and traveling.

The Arthur & Gloria Muselman Wellness Pavilion is a service/outreach of Swiss Village and located at 1201 Emmental Drive in Berne. Members and Non Members who are 55+ are welcome to attend any of the scheduled events during Active Aging Week September 27 – October 2.
