Title: Activities Assistant Organization
Years of Service at Organization: 1 Year. (10 Years of Employment)
This individual is a very special person to those living and working in this community. For 10 years, she worked for this community’s residential and independent living activities department. Before she retired, she expressed her desire to continue serving in this community as a volunteer. She began volunteering soon thereafter. Her volunteer duties include assisting with activities, preparing for holidays, organizing the community’s garage sale and bazaar fundraisers, teaching cooking classes, attending resident outings, gardening, sewing, and much more.
“She is a jack-of-all-trades and has continued to share her many talents with our organization,” said the Director of Activities for the community. “She is dedicated to serving wherever she is needed and devotes many hours to volunteering her time, especially during busy seasons.”
This individual has shown extraordinary love and dedication in everything that she does. Her commitment to the residents and the relationships she has formed is valued by this community. She has a servant’s heart and cares greatly for the residents and staff. Many of her interactions go above and beyond her volunteering duties. Today, you will often find her visiting with residents she served while actively employed by the community.
Before coming to this community, this individual worked in a flower shop. She has used her talents to make floral arrangements and bows to decorate for the holidays. You can often find this volunteer in the community’s greenhouse caring for the geraniums. She also assists with pulling weeds, planting flowers, and making sure that our grounds look beautiful. Residents and families appreciate the little touches that this volunteer does to make this community feel like home.
This volunteer has continued to come back for one of our most popular activities, a cooking show. This individual, along with another former staff member, present a ‘Rachel Ray’ style cooking show once per month. Residents and staff look forward to this monthly program and enjoy sampling the recipes.
This community is honored to nominate this individual for the community volunteer of the year award by LeadingAge Indiana.
