Therapy Services at Swiss Village

The goal of our therapy department is to restore your independence and help you achieve the highest level of functioning capability. Post hospital skilled nursing services and therapies are available for those who have Medicare Part A coverage. Services are also available under Medicare Part B for those who do not need nursing services but could benefit from an individualized therapy program.

Types of Therapy Available:

  • Physical Therapy
  • Physical therapy is designed to restore muscular strength and control, which may have been lost due to an illness or injury. Treatment may include gait training, joint mobilization and strengthening exercises. The therapist focuses on improving and restoring mobility, strength, flexibility and coordination. Depending on the diagnosis, therapy may include passive movement and patterning for neurological training to prevent stiffness and re-educate the neuro-network between the brain and muscles.

  • Occupational Therapy
  • Occupational therapy provides the necessary training to restore independence and self-care. The focus is relearning the daily tasks of living such as bathing, dressing, grooming, housekeeping, cooking, and other skills needed to return to your home. Therapists work closely with patients to train them to use the specialized equipment for mobility and independence.

  • Speech Therapy
  • Speech therapy provides services to those who have a language disorder such as impaired expression, comprehension, sound production and articulation or those who have difficulty swallowing. The inability to communicate is very frustrating. Persons suffering from aphasia, apraxia, dysphagia and other speech impairments can frequently benefit from speech therapy. For the most effective results, early and aggressive therapy is important.

Below is a list of conditions that can frequently benefit from an intense individualized therapy program:

    • Rehabilitation from surgery
    • Impairment from a stroke
    • Weakness in legs or arms
    • Hand injury
    • Musculoskeletal conditions
    • Orthopedic patients
    • Parkinson's disease
    • Neuorlogical conditions
    • Speech impairment
    • Swallowing difficulty
    • Cardiac rehabilitation
    • Arthritis
    • Fear of falling
    • Bone fractures
    • Difficulty with an activity of daily living
    • Trouble with balance and/or coordination
    • Cognitive disorders

Early intervention with an individualized therapy program almost always provides a lifelong benefit. Undergoing intense therapy early often provides the critical difference between coping with a debilitating loss versus regaining your independence and a positive quality of life experience for years to come.
