SWISS VILLAGE HOSTS TOUR, RESIDENT ART & CRAFT SHOW, AND SPONSORS BIG WHEEL RACE DURING BERNE SWISS DAYS FESTIVALBERNE, INDIANA – Every year the Berne community and people from throughout the surrounding area participate in a variety of enjoyable activities during Berne Swiss Days. This year, Swiss Days will be held on Thursday, July 24 through Saturday, July 26. In addition to having an information booth downtown, Swiss Village is pleased participate in several events during Swiss Days. On Friday, July 25, the public is welcome to take a closer look at the services and accommodations available at Swiss Village Retirement Community by attending a free Open House with a campus tour beginning at 11:00 a.m. from the main entrance. Informational materials, refreshments, and door prizes items will be available for attendees. On Friday, July 25, Swiss Village will have an art and craft show in the Swiss Village Auditorium from 10:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. This event is free to the general public. The art and craft show will feature items created by the residents at Swiss Village. On Saturday, July 26 Swiss Village’s Kinder Haus Day Care will be sponsoring a Big Wheel Race downtown Berne, on Baltimore Street, for children ages 3-6. The race will begin at 10:00 a.m. There is a $3.00 entry fee per child. All participants will receive a special treat, and the top three winners in each age group will receive monetary prizes. The very essence of art seeks to inspire and create a medium of work that connects with people of all ages and walks of life. In order to showcase the artwork of many talented residents, Swiss Village Retirement Community will be having an Art & Craft Show during Swiss Days 2008. Swiss Village offers a variety of art classes for the residents. With these classes, residents are able to develop new skills and gain a sense of satisfaction in creating a piece of artwork. Swiss Days Big Wheel RaceThe Swiss Days Big Wheel Race, sponsored by Swiss Village’s Kinder Haus Day Care Center, is back again! Children ages 3-6 are invited to participate and must ride the Big Wheels provided. Each participant will receive a special treat from Dairy Queen and Kinder Haus Day Care Center, with the top three winners in each age group receiving monetary prizes. The race will be held on Saturday, July 26 at 10:00 a.m. on Baltimore Street beside the Cross Community Church in downtown Berne. The race will feature young children from ages 3-6 in a 25-meter race to the finish on big wheels racecars. Registration will be the day of the race and there will be a $3.00 entry fee. Join the Swiss Village Memory Walk Team!Swiss Village will be participating in the annual Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walk in Fort Wayne on September 13, 2008. The Memory Walk raises awareness of the Alzheimer’s disease as well as money to support research to find a cure. Swiss Village has participated in the Memory Walk for the past three years and has been one of the largest fund-raisers at the walk. Registration forms can be picked up at the Front Desk or EP Office. Team members will receive a Swiss Village Memory Walk T-Shirt. The T-Shirts will include names in honor and memory of loved ones with dementia. Purchase space on the back of the t-shirt for $2.00 to include a loved one’s name at the Front Desk or the EP Office. T-Shirts are available for purchase for those who will not be pledging money for the Memory Walk. We are excited about participating in the walk again, and hope to have many staff members, residents and family members join in the walk. Cruise-In Car ShowSwiss Village will host a Cruise-In Car Show on Saturday, August 23, 2008 from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. in the circle drive. All proceeds will go toward Swiss Village’s Memory Walk Team for the Alzheimer’s Association. Be sure to come and look around, enjoy the live DJ, and have supper. Trophies, prizes, and dash plaques will be given to those showcasing their car at the cruise-in.
